Programming

Programming for ConCertino '99 promises to be filled to the brim. Our opening reception on Friday evening will start off with a bang. We will have theme concerts, guest concerts, workshops, a gala Interfilk Auction, two-shots, song-writing contest, and, of course, lots of open filking. Saturday's banquet will continue the theme of "Do It Yourself."

Song Contests

We have two song contests at ConCertino:

Theme Filk Contest/Concert

In honor of Guest of Honor, Bill Sutton, we invite filk songs with the theme Do It Yourself . Songs must have been written after Contata '98 (July 12, 1998). You can sign up at the con to perform your song or designate a proxy to perform it for you. Performance of the theme contest entries will be after the banquet, Saturday night.

Instafilk Contest/Concert

There will be an instafilk contest at the con. The subject will be announced at the beginning of the con. Songs must be written during the con. Sign up any time before the concert on Sunday to perform your song or designate a proxy to perform it for you. Group efforts are allowed.

Banquet

Our Banquet will be held Saturday evening in the Marriott's fabulous rain-or-shine permanent pavillion. We will feature a cookout, with chicken, beef kabobs, hamburgers & hot dogs as well as the traditional extras and fixin's.

Vegetarian and kosher also available (by advance request only).

There will be a special entertainment event at the banquet. What is it? Buy a banquet ticket and find out!

The cost is $25.00 per person. Children 4-12 are half price. Children under 4 are free.

Book now for this special event.

Seeking Songs for Singing

We are seeking songs for our limited edition ConCertino program/song book. Send your contributions by e-mail to dgendron@massed.net, or by snail mail to
M.A.S.S. F.I.L.C.
18 Cottage Avenue
Arlington, MA 02474

The deadline is June 1. If we use your song, you will receive a free copy of the book. Songs with original tunes should include sheet music, a tape, or a standard MIDI or Finale file. Submissions will be returned only if accompanied by a SASE.

Choral Performance

Join us for a four-part arrangement of filk songs led by Ed Stauff. There will be two rehearsals (Friday and Saturday) before the final performance. Everyone is welcome.

The songs have not been chosen yet. Contact us closer to the con if you want to get music, or just show up at the first rehearsal.

Rise Up Singing

A rousing group sing-along from the popular songbook. Bring your copy.

Performers

A partial list of those who are going to do 20-minute sets on Friday night or Saturday afternoon or night.

Two-fers Concerts

Sign up at the con to perform one or two songs. This is an excellent opportunity for the beginner or shy singer, as well as the more experienced: a limited performance for an appreciative audience.

Oldies & Classics

How long has it been since you've heard Carmen Miranda's Ghost or Banned from Argo? Too long or not long enough? To filk Mark Twain, a classic is a song that everyone liked and no one wants to sing anymore. If you're new to filk and have been wondering what we've been talking about, come to the Oldies session.

Interfilk Auction

There will be an Interfilk auction on Saturday. Bring your money and support this good cause. Bring donations too, this is a charity auction.

Workshops

"100 in '99"

Our Con Chair has foolishly promised that there will be 100 guests attending ConCertino '99; hence the infamous "100 in '99" buttons which you may have seen. Will ConCertino '99 achieve this goal? What horrible fate will he meet if it doesn't? The answers will be revealed at the banquet.
